Radical Generosity: Life Together

Acts 2:42–47 · Series: Who Is My Neighbour?

What happens when God’s people live generously, together and in unity? Their neighbours notice.

Continuing our series “Who Is My Neighbour?”, Pastor Duli Asi looks at the early church in Acts 2:42–47. After Pentecost, the new believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. They shared what they had with anyone in need, met together in the temple courts and in their homes with glad and sincere hearts, and enjoyed the favour of all the people. The Lord added to their number daily.

Pastor Duli draws out three things:

  1. Growing together in knowing God: sitting under God’s Word, deep fellowship (koinonia), the Lord’s Supper and prayer
  2. A sincere shared life builds a strong synergy: no ulterior motives, just genuine love, making disciples who point to Christ
  3. Radical generosity and unity impact society: from Barnabas to Dorcas to the churches’ famine relief, generosity opened hearts to the gospel

You don’t need millions to bring change to broken homes and communities. It starts with a genuine and generous heart. Quoting John Rinehart of Gospel Patrons, Pastor Duli reminds us that generosity is not a way to earn God’s favour; it is our joyful response to God’s radical generosity to us. “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son.”

Reflect this week

  • Are you sitting under God’s Word regularly, alone and with others?
  • Is there someone in the church family you need to go to humbly, in love?
  • What could radical generosity look like for you or your family this week?
